Wolf '22 (Huron University College)

Taking AP courses and then re-taking the same courses makes the transition much easier. I recommend Huron to those considering Western. Do intramurals! Mr. Lu and Mr. Ito best prepared me for university classes, and I'd add finance/accounting (AP) with Lu.

Wolf '21 (Western University)

Mr. Ito encouraged me to follow my dreams and pursue Mathematics as my degree. Another teacher to whom I am grateful is Mr. McCauley - he always believed in my creativity and skill in the things I loved.

Mr. Lu's classes have really helped me with my statistics and economics courses. I miss Mr. McCauley's passion for everything. He taught us especially on the soccer team!

If you are going into Sciences - Excel, Excel, Excel! You will use it all the time. Become well versed in MS Excel as soon as you can because if you do, you will be miles ahead to begin with.

In the words of Ted Lasso, "It will all work out. Now it may not work out how you think it will work out, but it will work out all the same." I always thought that the path I chose was the path that I needed to follow, but don't let your selfishness get in the way of the things that you can do and the paths that you could take that you didn't see before.

One thing that I wish I had known in Grade 12 is that you do not need to 100% know what you want to do. Don't stress out if you do not know what you want to do.

Wolf '19 (Queen's University)

There's no one right way to do university but a few things I knew (or wish I'd known) will hopefully help you guys. Be outgoing both for people and new experiences. Find your space and do your best to enjoy your experience. Don't overthink it.

Wise Words from the Wolves

Coming to university at first will be overwhelming compared to high school but make sure to be as outgoing as you can, even though it can be scary. The friends that you make in your first year are usually forever friends, so don't be scared, just be yourself. You won't regret it!

Campus life is definitely different but very fun and easy to meet people.

Do activities and extra-curriculars because you want to, don't do them to pad the resume. Give yourself time to figure out what you love and time to rest. Try your best to live in the moment and be present.

In high school, something I wish I'd known is to enjoy living in the moment and know that, in terms of deciding what I want to do , everything will figure itself out. Something that helps in the decision-making process is visiting the schools before you choose where you want to go.

I wasn't able to visit my university because of COVID, so I chose my program based on what the teachers at WPGA say. They are so helpful - please go and talk to them if you have any questions.

Be open to trying new experiences and going out of your comfort zone. You don't know what you'll enjoy or some of the people you'll meet.

Don't shy from making friends. Not every person you meet will be a friend forever, be patient and keep your head up. Plan second-year housing ASAP. Start in October so you don't end up 20 - 30 months off campus.

When you go to your residence, put yourself out there and make new friends! You'll miss Vancouver if you leave - but it makes coming home that much better!
